My next rotation for work is field, and as the training in Toowoomba was cancelled, I had to go to Townsville for a couple of weeks to do the training up there. Luckily Rachael was able to come up on the weekend and we got to go see The Cat Empire play at Magnetic Island, amongst other site seeing.
We went to the carnival of flowers again this year with the wine festival having another good line up of bands. This included The Whitlams, who I have wanted to see for ages. Unfortunately, the good line-up meant that they sold way more tickets than they were expecting and the place was packed. It was so busy you couldn’t even make your way around to the food and wine stands, as to get any where you needed to squish your way through the crowd at a snail’s pace to go anywhere.
Rachael and I went for a drive to Crows Nest National Park yesterday afternoon for something to do; it’s about a one hour drive north of Toowoomba. In addition to the road being lined with beautiful tall trees for most of the way, the Hottest 100 of the past 20 years was playing on the radio, making for a pretty good drive.
The camping grounds were pretty good, I think they must be fairly popular during summer.
So despite an unsuccessful earlier attempt when we first moved up to Toowoomba, we still hadn’t climbed Tabletop Mountain. On Friday night we were out with a girl called Liz, who said that they were climbing it on Sunday morning to train for Tough Mudder at 5:30. So after lots of convincing, I convinced Rachael that we should go along. Although upon waking up and seeing the cloud of fog, she was unconvinced again.
On Saturday we got the bus to the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour, where we stayed for 7 nights. We had lunch at the restaurant while we waited for check-in time and I had fish and chips (the fish was awesome) and Rachael had Kokoda (photo right) which was fish in a coconut shell with Cassava chips (sort of a cross between potato and cooking banana).
Our beachfront bure (pronounced like Boo-Ray) was quite awesome.
